Cannondale works with CPSC on official recall of front racks

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Cannondale, which issued a safety notice in July about front racks used on some of its Treadwell bike models, is now conducting a recall of the racks with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Canadian authorities.

The front racks can detach from the bikes and abruptly stop the front wheel. Cycling Sports Group has received reports of two incidents of the tray detaching and contacting the bicycle wheel, one resulting in a fall involving minor cuts and bruises, and the other involving both bruising and a concussion.

The recall involves front racks with a bamboo tray included with Treadwell bicycles and sold separately. A table showing the bike models that included the rack is below.

The rack has a black metal frame and a bamboo tray.  “ISO11243:2016 YUENI MAX 10KG” is printed on the bamboo tray.

Cannondale sold about 1,975 racks in the U.S. and about 114 in Canada.

Consumers are being told to immediately stop riding the bicycle until the front rack is removed, and to visit their local authorized Cannondale dealer, or contact Cycling Sports Group at 800-245-3872 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, or email ridersupport@cannondale.com.
