Julbo pushes into mountain biking with new sponsorships

Published January 16, 2017

WILLISTON, Vt. (BRAIN) — Julbo, a 125-year-old French eyeglass brand best known for its ski and mountaineering products, is increasing its commitment to the mountain bike market this year.

The company is sponsoring American cross-country legend Todd Wells and several offroad events and teams.

"Julbo has deep roots in mountain sports so it only makes sense for us to grow our reach within the bike community," said David Crothers, Julbo's marketing director. "We offer the perfect product for riders: technical frames and photochromic eyewear solutions that quickly react to lighting conditions makes more sense for riders rather than interchangeable lenses. Riders are continuously in and out of shade or start riding when it's overcast to only have the sun pop out so having a lens that does the work for them is what we specialize in. We have reactive lens solutions no matter the weather conditions."

Wells joins Julbo's sponsored mountain athletes whop include skier Glen Plake, freeskier Caroline Gleich, speed mountaineer Ueli Steck, ultrarunners Stephanie Howe and Magdalena Boulet and World Cup cross country skier, Noah Hoffman.

For the 2017 season, Wells will be using the Julbo's Aero, a lightweight frame with photochromic and anti-fog properties.

Additionally, Julbo will provide support to the Pivot Cycles Enduro Team. The brand will have a presence at the following events:

Outerbike, Moab, Utah, March 3- April 2
Sea Otter Classic, Monterey, California April 20 – 23
The Rasputitsa, East Burke, VT, April 22
Transylvania Epic, Trans-sylvania, PA, May 25 – 29th
Triple Crown Enduro Series, New England, August – October
Grand Prix of Gloucester, Gloucester, MA, October
