Mirra to be inducted into BMX Hall of Fame

The freestyler, who died in February, is among the six to be inducted at June ceremony.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (BRAIN) — Freestyler Dave Mirra, who died in February this year at 41, is among the six people who will be inducted into the BMX Hall of Fame at a ceremony on June 11 here. The induction ceremony this year will be held hours after the U.S. BMX Olympic Trials.

Mirra won 24 medals at the X-Games, won the ESPY Award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete and was once named one of People Magazine's 50 Hottest Bachelors. He became a household name when he was featured in the video game "Dave Mirra Freestyle." He also founded a BMX brand, MirraCo. He will be inducted in the Freestyle category at the Hall.

Other inductees this year are Lee Medlin, in the Pioneer Racer category; Terry Tenette in the Racer category; Profile Racing founder Jim Alley in the Industry category; Dennis McCoy in the Freestyle category; and Michelle Cairns in the Woman category. 

Tickets are on sales now for the ceremony, which will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
