COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (BRAIN) — Steve Blank has joined USA Cycling as the executive director of the USA Cycling Foundation, the non-profit fundraising arm of USA Cycling for U.S. National and Olympic Team athlete development.
Blank has more than two decades of fundraising experience, most recently as the Surfrider Foundation's director of development.
"Steve is assuming leadership of USA Cycling's Foundation at a pivotal time," said USA Cycling CEO Derek Bouchard-Hall. "We are seeking to do more for more types of riders than ever before. With a renewed emphasis on grassroots development, an expansion into enthusiast cyclists and greater commitment to developing all forms of elite cycling, the Foundation will prove more essential than ever in supporting the development of American cycling."
The USACF receives no federal funding or subsidies and operates solely through private donations from individuals, corporations and other foundations.
Blank said, "I'm thrilled to join the USA Cycling Foundation. Cycling is a sport that people are deeply passionate about, and it's our goal to connect that enthusiasm with philanthropy to support our athletes both at the elite level and throughout the development stages. The recent success of our women's athletes with the UCI Hour Record and World Championships Women's Team Pursuit gold medal are excellent examples of our success and show that our donors are having a profound impact on U.S. athletes and teams."
