MISSOULA, Mont. (BRAIN) — Alex Strickland has been promoted to editor-in-chief at Adventure Cyclist magazine as its previous editor, Michael Deme, has assumed the position of design and media department director and executive editor of the magazine. Adventure Cyclist is the member magazine of the Adventure Cycling Association.

Strickland was most recently Adventure Cyclist's managing editor, having joined the magazine in February 2014. Deme has been with Adventure Cycling since 1993 and has held many editorial positions, including editor of The Cyclists' Yellow Pages.

"Alex has brought an expertise about all aspects of cycling to our editorial team since he joined us in early 2014. I'm really looking forward to a future with Alex at the helm of Adventure Cyclist as we explore new and exciting ways to tell stories about bicycle travel from around the globe both in print and digitally," Deme said.

Strickland said, "Having exclusively covered bicycle travel and bikepacking for almost 40 years, Adventure Cyclist is in a unique position to mix the perspective of contributors who have been looking at the world from their saddles for decades with this boom of new voices in adventure cycling. The opportunity to expand coverage online combined with a still-growing print magazine makes Adventure Cyclist the perfect spot to tell the stories that anyone who loves to ride bicycles or be outside can't wait to read."

Strickland will oversee production of nine issues of Adventure Cyclist per year, as well as supervising editorial coverage online.

Both Deme and Strickland can be reached at magazine@adventurecycling.org.
