MIPS now used by 40+ brands, another 14 adding the technology for next season

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany (BRAIN) — Just over a year ago at Eurobike, Bell Helmets announced an investment in the Stockholm-based company behind the MIPS system, which is said to protect the head from rotational forces on impact. At the time, MIPS was used by just a handful of bike brands, and mostly in enduro-style helmets.

A year later, MIPS is being used by more than 40 bicycle helmet brands on about 95 models. For next season, another 14 new brands will use MIPS, including Bern, Bontrager, Kellys, Limar, Louis Garneau, MSC Bikes, Specialized, and Zero rh+. The company expects MIPS will be used on 180 additional models next year.

"As the conversations and awareness of head trauma injuries have elevated recently, so has the awareness of the benefits of MIPS," said Johan Thiel, MIPS CEO. "This summer we've seen our partner helmets sell through at retail better than ever before, and we expect consumer demand to continue to rise in 2016 with the addition of leading cycling brands offering MIPS."
