Heritage road brand Brancale relaunches in US

Published December 17, 2014

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Historically an Italian road brand, Brancale has been relaunched as a U.S.-based cycling apparel company.

Brancale first rose to prominence as one of the leading manufacturers of leather "hairnet" helmets worn by professional road cyclists through the early 1990s, but has been out of the U.S. market for two decades, said the company's Ben Gardner.

The new incarnation of Brancale will focus on high-end clothing made primarily in Europe. The company's first line of apparel and accessories includes leather cycling gloves made in England, bib shorts and jerseys made in Northern Italy and Merino wool products made in the United States.

Brancale is selling largely consumer direct through its website and may pursue small-scale sales through select bike shops as well, Gardner said.
