Interbike/BRAIN Turkey Pedal ride to benefit food bank

Published October 27, 2014

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (BRAIN) — Interbike and Bicycle Retailer and Industry News will host the second annual Turkey Pedal industry ride and food drive on Saturday, Nov. 15.

This year, organizers have partnered with a new charity: Serra’s Pantry, in Interbike’s hometown of San Juan Capistrano. Serra’s Pantry is a nonprofit food agency that provides more than 520 local families each month with food and hygiene items. Food is distributed to the needy from donations made by area merchants through the nonprofit’s “grocery rescue” service.

The Turkey Pedal was created to help feed those that need assistance during the holiday season, and to bring together cyclists from the many companies in Southern California that either work in or with the bike industry. The ride follows a flat, scenic 40-mile ride along the Southern California coastline from San Juan Capistrano to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base and back.

Ride participants are encouraged to bring one or more of the following items to the check-in table at the start of the ride: cooking oil, cereal, canned tuna, peanut butter, jelly, dry pinto beans, canned vegetables and fruit, rice, spaghetti and sauce, pop/flip-top food items, and hygiene products including toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, bar soap and toilet paper.

Check-in, donations and breakfast will take place from 7 to 8:15 at the Interbike Office Courtyard, 31910 Del Obispo, Suite 200, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. The ride departs at 8:30 a.m.

To attend, RSVP by Nov. 10 to Janina Quintana, Interbike marketing manager, at janina.quintana@emeraldexpo.com or (949) 226-5784.
