SEATTLE (BRAIN) — At this month's Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, the hydration brand Nuun will launch a program to assess athletes' hydration levels.
The company will offer to conduct tests for free at the event, and will conduct similar assessments at other events next year, with plans to eventually sell the service online. The test protocol includes sweat and urine analysis and a body weight percentage test.
"Educating athletes is a top priority for us," said the test developer, Vishal Patel, a certified nutritionist and Nuun's education and innovations leader. "When an athlete's hydration plan is perfectly dialed, he or she is able to fully maximize his or her potential."
Nuun CEO and president Kevin Rutherford said, "The climate in Hawaii combined with the concentration of world-stage athletic talent makes Kona the perfect launching ground. ... We are eager to bring this simple and important program into the endurance sports arena."
The tests in Kona will be conducted at the Endurance Maximus retail store Oct. 8 - 11.
