Event owner and Velo and Triathlete magazine publisher names new CEO, CFO and CMO

SAN DIEGO (BRAIN) — Competitor Group, Inc. has named David Abeles as its new CEO, Barrett Garrison as CFO and Keith Kendrick as Chief Marketing Officer.

"I couldn't be more delighted that these talented executives are joining Competitor Group and will devote their talents to growing the finest media and event company in the world," said Paul F. Walsh, the Chairman of CGI, who had been serving as interim CEO and led the global search since CEO Scott Dickey and CFO Steve Gintowt left the company in December 2013

CGI is major event owner, owning and operating the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, KiDS Rock Series, TriRock Triathlon Series and Women’s Running Series. It also publishes Velo, Women's Running and Triathlete magazines and their associated websites and owns the Race It event registration service.

Abeles was most recently the executive vice president and general manager at TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Company. Prior to TaylorMade, he served as vice president of sales and marketing for Cobra Golf.

New CFO Garrison comes to CGI most recently from NetSpend Corporation, a provider of prepaid debit cards, where he was CFO. Prior to NetSpend, Garrison held senior finance positions with Dell and Seiko Instruments.

Kendrick joined CGI as a consultant and was appointed interim Chief Marketing Officer in October 2013.

Dickey and Gintowt left CGI almost exactly a year after the company was acquired by Calera Capital. Last month Dickey was named CEO of SourceInterlink, a large magazine publisher that counts Bike and Transworld BMX among its titles. On Tuesday, Peter Englehart , who preceded Dickey as CEO of CGI, was named Chairman of the Board at SourceInterlink
