New speakers, new videos, new venue for IBD Summit

Published January 13, 2014

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (BRAIN) — Interbike and the Sea Otter Classic announced its completed list of speakers and schedule for the third annual IBD Summit, which will be held in Monterey, Calif., April 8-10.

The organizers also announced that the event will be held at the Museum of Monterey, located just steps behind the Portola Resort & Spa, which hosted the previous editions. The host hotel will be the nearby Hotel Pacific.

As for the schedule, it will include 10 presenters who will each cover an issue or business trend facing independent bicycle retailers and give the audience specific action items that they can take back to their shops.

The final speaker added to the event schedule is Mike Cosentino, owner of Big Peach Running Company in Atlanta, Ga. BPRC has seven stores, more than 100 employees, annual revenue of $10 million and 250 event partnerships; it is the largest specialty fitness retailer in Georgia. Cosentino’s presentation is called "Entitlement Selling Is Dead; Engagement Retailing Lives On," and will cover the secrets to his success and how his brick-and-mortar business thrives in the digital age.

The conference organizers recently added short videos to their website highlighting select event presenters’ sessions. The videos were created by the presenters and provide a sneak peek into what the session will cover, and why retailers should attend.

The summit's new home

“Several factors contributed to the decision to move (to the new host hotel and conference space),” said Justin Gottlieb, Interbike’s PR and communications director. Our group will take over the entire museum, which has a spacious theater with more than enough room for our event and gives us more privacy and less distraction from other small events going on in neighboring ballrooms (as was the case last year). Other than having to walk a few extra steps across the street to our new hotel, we feel that the upside to the move far outweighs any negative.”

The IBD Summit has secured a block of rooms at a discounted rate for attendees at the Hotel Pacific. The Hotel Pacific is an all-suite property. IBD Summit attendees can secure their hotel accommodations by calling (800) 554-5542 and mentioning “IBD Summit 2014.

All registered retailers are enrolled in the 2014 Interbike VIP Retailer Program, which offers numerous benefits at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and Hotel during the Interbike expo in Las Vegas this fall.

Summit sponsors include the National Bicycle Dealers Association, PeopleForBikes, Raleigh, Specialized, Devinci, Leatt, QBP, VP Components, Club Ride, Yalumi and The Bike Cooperative.
