ATLANTA, GA (BRAIN) — Vee Tire Co. has hired former mountain bike and BMX world champion Mike King to work as tire development manager and brand ambassador.
In addition to tire testing duties, King will also attend promotional events, races and bike demos.
“In our quest to continue to make the best tires available, we are now able to lean on Mike’s expertise to ensure we get that end result for our consumers,” commented Tony Degollado, Vee Tire Co.’s marketing manager. “I have known Mike for over twenty years and his work ethic is extraordinary and you don’t achieve that many championships without it.”
King is one of the few Americans to win both UCI downhill and BMX world titles. Most recently, King worked for the UCI as a BMX technical delegate and served as a BMX commission member. King has also worked for USA Cycling as the BMX program director and served as head coach for the U.S. Olympic BMX teams for the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games. He is a member of the National BMX Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in November 2013.
“Vee Tire Co. approached me at Interbike this year and asked if I was interested in testing and developing tires for them,” said King. “I have designed and developed tires in the past for other brands and this is an area I know I can bring instant value and expertise. I am excited and looking forward to the challenge of putting Vee Tire Co. on the map.”
