BMC hires McLaren to head US subsidiary

Published August 2, 2013

BOSTON, MA (BRAIN) — BMC has hired Chris McLaren as general manager for its U.S. office, replacing former GM Karim Pine. Pine had been at the helm since February 2011.

McLaren has extensive experience in the bike industry, most recently with Shinola. He also held stints at Cervélo and Focus, where he was responsible for North American sales.

McLaren will oversee sales, marketing and operations for the BMC and Stromer brands.

“I'm excited to join BMC and look forward to the opportunity ahead. There is tremendous potential for the brand to grow in the U.S. and abroad, and I am proud to lead the U.S. effort,” said McLaren.

BMC said his hiring coincides with efforts to strengthen its commitment to its brick-and-mortar retailers. After seeing strong growth since its decision to pursue a direct-distribution model in 2010, BMC aims to expand sales through IBD channels.

“The BMC and Stromer brands have both seen tremendous growth in the last few years,” said Michael Sommer, BMC’s global head of sales. “Chris’ passion, energy and ability to build lasting customer relationships is exactly what the BMC Group needs to continue defining its place in the U.S. market and to take it to the next level.”
