Published December 26, 2012

NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN) — Registration for the 2013 TD Five Boro Bike Tour opens Jan. 22 at noon.

The May 5 tour, said to be America's largest cycling event, is a 40-mile trip through all of New York's boroughs on streets closed to traffic. Organizers expect 32,000 participants.

The tour is co-produced by Bike New York, a city bicycling organization, and the New York City Department of Transportation, in association with multiple City of New York departments. Proceeds from the event fund Bike New York's education program

Last year the tour's first-come, first-serve registration sold out in less than 24 hours.

This year Bike New York, in partnership with the Giro d'Italia, is adding a new VIP registration option that will give riders the chance to test their limits with a timed climb up the Verrazano Bridge. In addition, all Giro riders receive an exclusive Italian-made Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia New York City jersey to wear during the event. Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia New York City registration also opens on Jan. 22 at noon.

Bike Expo New York

All 2013 TD Five Boro Bike Tour participants will pick up their rider packet and tour vest at Bike Expo New York at Basketball City on Pier 36. The consumer expo will take place the two days before the Tour, Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4. It's free and open to the public and garnered more than 43,000 attendees in 2012.
