Sharp joins Garmin team as co-sponsor • Knog sponsors CrossVegas and Cross After Dark series • Interbike registration opens for exhibitors and media
BOULDER, CO (BRAIN) Monday June 25 2012 7:02 AM MT—Slipstream Sports' professional road team will be relabeled Garmin-Sharp for the start of the Tour de France later this month.
The U.S.-registered team, which includes recent Tour of Italy winner Ryder Hesjedal, has signed the technology retailer Sharp as a new co-title sponsor.
The team's official UCI name will be Garmin-Sharp (GRS). Barracuda Networks will continue as a co-title sponsor, and team materials and its website will refer to the team as Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda.
“Sharp shares our passion and commitment to the best innovations in technology,” said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Slipstream Sports.
In addition to collaborating with the team on new technology, Sharp will outfit the team with Aquos LCD screens, audio products, solar panels, air purification systems, microwave and steam cooking equipment, refrigerators and multifunction printing devices.
Sharp has been involved with pro cycling in the past, as sponsor of the U.K-registered Pro Continental squad Rapha-Condor-Sharp and the Tour of Britain.
The new team kit by Castelli will be revealed Thursday, June 28, at a Tour de France news conference in Belgium.
Knog sponsors CrossVegas and Cross After Dark series
LONGMONT, CO (BRAIN) Monday June 25 2012 7:11 AM MT—Australian accessory maker Knog will sponsor the CrossVegas race and the related Cross After Dark cyclocross series, the company said.
Knog will provide 200 of its Blinder LED headlights to light up a stretch of the CrossVegas course. CrossVegas, billed as the largest cyclocross race outside Europe, is held in the evening in Las Vegas during the Interbike expo.
CrossVegas kicks off the Cross After Dark series, which also includes events in St. Louis, Cincinnati and Los Angeles.
