LOS ANGELES, CA (BRAIN)—Star Production SARL, owner of the worldwide TriStar Triathlon Series, has acquired Gran Fondo USA, producers of America’s original series of Italian-themed gran fondo cycling events.
Gran Fondo USA was founded in 2008 by Matteo Gerevini and Rob Klingensmith. In 2009 they organized America’s first gran fondo in San Diego.
“Star Events is committed to delivering high-quality sports events, accessible to all levels of competition,” said Georg Hochegger, CEO of Star Production SARL. ”Gran Fondo USA introduced the gran fondo concept to the U.S. and we believe it offers the ideal platform for our expansion into American cycling.“
The four events of Gran Fondo USA are now part of StarTour family, which combine memorable riding experiences with unforgettable destinations. The 2011 series includes gran fondos in San Diego Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Miami, and more locations will be announced soon for 2012.
“The success of our events is based on our adaptation of the ‘Made in Italy’ theme for the American cycling community,” said Gran Fondo co-founder Matteo Gerevini. “We’ve proven the concept, and are proud to now be part of Star Production, which will allow us to expand the series into other major markets.”
The Star Events and StarTour label are owned by Monaco-based Star Production SARL, a company specializing in high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection.
