Published May 19, 2011

POMONA, CA (BRAIN)—The publisher of Recumbent & Tandem Rider Magazine plans to stage the first annual trade show focused on the recumbent market in Pomona, California, this fall.

The Recumbent Cycle-Con Trade Show and Convention is scheduled for Oct. 21 through Oct. 23. The first two days will be trade only, with attendance limited to industry members. The show will open to consumers on the final day.

The show, held at the Pomona Fairplex, will also feature an outdoor demo area where dealers can take bikes out for a test.

“Recumbent bicycles are one of the fastest-growing segments of the bicycle market," said Chuck Coyne, publisher and editor of Recumbent & Tandem Rider Magazine, the show’s chief sponsor. “This event is a great opportunity for members of the recumbent industry from all over the country to see new products and attend seminars on a variety of topics.”

Among the presenters is Jay Townley, a partner in The Gluskin Townley Group LLC, a market research and specialty retail consultancy firm, who will lead a presentation about recumbents and the opportunity they offer bike shops to hold on to their core consumer market of aging baby boomers.

So far about 25 exhibitors have signed on including Greenspeed Trikes, Hase Bikes, Lightfoot Cycles, Optima Cycles, Sidewinder Cycles, Sun Bicycles and TerraCycle, among others.

Attendees and exhibitors can register for the show at www.recumbentcyclecon.com. The Sheraton Fairplex Hotel is extending show rates to attendees as the official show hotel.

Recumbent & Tandem Rider Magazine was started in 2001. The magazine is distributed through U.S. bike shops and is available by subscription.
