FORT COLLINS, CO—Tom Petrie was ready to raise prices on his European product line in January, but then economic turmoil struck and the dollar’s value went up while the euro’s value declined. Petrie is still planning to post revised prices in January, but they may be lower.

LOS ANGELES, CA (BRAIN)—Sport Chalet’s sales decreased to $96.5 million during its second fiscal quarter ending September 28. This sales figure includes seven new stores the company opened compared to its second quarter last year.

PITTSBURGH, PA (BRAIN)—Dick’s Sporting Goods reports that its overall sales were $924.2 million, up 10 percent from its 2007 sales of $838.8 in the third quarter ending November 1.

MORGAN HILL, CA (BRAIN)—The current batch of counterfeit Specialized Tarmac framesets circulating the Internet isn’t the first time Specialized has dealt with sales of fake products, but it is the brashest case the supplier has seen, according to Mark Schroeder, director of engineering for Specialized.

Softride has traditionally sold direct to dealers, however with the increasing freight charges, smaller orders weren’t cost effective for dealers to purchase.
