OLATHE, Kan. (BRAIN) — Garmin's new Edge MTB, is the company's first GPS bike computer specifically made for mountain biking. Special features include recording 5 Hz GPS, which the company said shows riders more trail details, including downhill details. It also has new enduro and downhill ride profiles and a rugged case with seven overmolded buttons designed to resist mud and grit and a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass lens.
The device includes top tube and MTB mounting options.
It is said to provide up to 14 hours of battery life in demanding use cases and up to 26 hours in battery saver mode.
"Mountain biking continues to grow in popularity around the world and that's why we're excited to add Edge MTB to our lineup of innovative cycling products. Designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers, our latest bike computer is purpose-built for those looking to improve their technical skills and speed on the trails. With powerful 5 Hz GPS recording, colorful trail mapping, mountain bike metrics, training plans and recovery insights, Edge MTB is ready for the next ride," said Susan Lyman, Garmin's vice president of consumer sales and marketing.
The Edge MTB's Enduro ride profile tracks total ascent and descent from each run and for the ride overall. The Downhill ride profile automatically tracks a run each time a descent is completed to ensure the return to the top via shuttle or lift doesn't affect ride stats.
It allows riders to set up "timing gates" along a course to track split times during a race or ride and see in real-time if those times are ahead or behind targeted splits.
It has built-in maps that access MTB trail data from Trailforks. A new "Forksight" mode shows the names of trails up ahead, elevation profiles, distance back to start, trail difficulty, primary direction of travel and more.
It is available now and has a suggested retail price of $399.99.
