BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Rocky Mounts has started shipping its new line of bike security products to independent bicycle dealers and distributors ahead of schedule.
"From the beginning, when we introduced this line at last year's Interbike, response has been terrific," said RockyMounts sales director Rod Judd. "It's very fulfilling to see these first orders leave the warehouse."
"In addition to selling the locks directly to shops and through our new sales reps on the East Coast, we've partnered with three distributors: Bicycle Technologies International, Hans Johnsen, and J&B Importers."
The security line, originally scheduled for March delivery, includes 24 U-locks, cable locks, folding locks, and padlocks. They are rated on a 1 - 10 security rating scale based scenarios such as college campuses, residential neighborhoods, and high-density urban areas. The line is RockyMounts' first expansion beyond the rack category.
One of the locks with the highest security rating is the Compton, a CNC machined stainless steel U-lock with an 18mm shackle. Available in standard 3.3 inches by 5.1 inches or large 4.5 inches by 7.2 inch sizes, its shackle is coated with clear rubber to protect bikes. MSRP: $119.95 and $149.95.
Rocky Mounts claims its Carlito (left) is the lightest U-lock on the market, weighing less than one pound. With a security rating of 4, this 13mm alloy lock is designed for use in universities in residential settings. It easily fits in a back pocket, on the handlebars, or inside a backpack. MSRP is $39.95.
The Hendrix folding lock (right) is a security solution for large cities and universities. Its push-button operation enables easy opening and closing. It features hardened 3mm steel plates with rubber coating and a daisy chain design that folds to fit in the included water bottle cage mounting bracket. Its security rating is 7. MSRP is $69.95.
