GU's new Stroopwafel acts like an energy gel, tastes like a waffle

Published July 21, 2016

BERKELEY, Calif. (BRAIN) — GU Energy Labs has launched its new Energy Stroopwafel, a Dutch-style syrup waffle that the company said acts like an Energy Gel, but tastes like a breakfast treat.

"It's the sports nutrition answer to what to eat for breakfast before training. Because it provides complex carbohydrates, amino acids and electrolytes like an Energy Gel, it can be used in place of Gels for all-day, optimum performance during any activity," the company said.

The Stroopwafel includes complex and simple carbohydrates, essential amino acids, and electrolytes.

It's available in four flavors – Caramel Coffee (which has added caffeine), Salty's Caramel, Salted Caramel (gluten free), and Wild Berries (gluten free with caffeine). They come in boxes of 16, individually wrapped, at $22.50 retail for the products with gluten and $24 for gluten-free.
