EUGENE, Ore. (BRAIN) — Abbey Tools is offering a set of five sockets specifically made to fit the low-profile hex on the top of suspension fork legs.
Normal sockets have a chamfer that decreases the contact between the tool and the nut, which can lead to damage to the nuts. Many shops grind down their own sockets for this purpose, but if not done perfectly, the modified sockets can produce a poor fit that can damage parts.
The Abbey tools are made from scratch from billet aluminum, CNC- machined with zero lead in. They feature a 3/8-inch square drive for use with torque wrenches. Finger splines help run the top caps into the fork legs with oil-soaked hands. The sockets are short (1 inch/25mm for all sizes) to reduce the chance of them coming off of the top cap under torque.
The five-piece set has sockets for 24mm, 26mm, 28mm, 30mm and 32mm, which fits most forks on the market. The set retails for $150.
