OGDEN, Utah (BRAIN) — Enve is now shipping its M60 HV and M70 HV wheel models; the HV stands for "high volume."
"Each wheel model in the M Series features an inner and outer rim width that is optimized for specific tire widths and volumes. Now that tire manufacturers are producing tires that exceed the volume specification of the first round of M Series wheels, Enve saw the need expand the line to include the M60 and M70 HV models to better pair with new high volume tire models coming onto the market," the company said.
The standard-volume M60 was optimized for a tire width of 2.25-inch, while the M70 was best using a 2.3-inch tire. The new HV models increase the recommended tire size to 2.3-2.4-inches on the M60 HV and 2.4-2.5 inches on the M70 HV.
"The purpose of going wider was to accommodate new tires coming onto the market today and to meet the needs of the growing segment of trail riders who prefer 2.3-inch tires as their daily drivers," said Jake Pantone, Enve's director of marketing.
Scott Nielson, Enve's vice president of R&D, said, "We evaluated the interaction between tires and rims in order to determine what the optimal inner rim widths would be. What we found is that beyond 30mm of internal rim width, there was a clear point of diminishing returns and going wider than 30mm only added weight and didn't improve upon the interface between a high-volume 2.5-inch tire and the rim."
The new wheels will accept plus-size tires, but the company said the rims were developed for the high-performance crowd looking for uncompromised performance needed for aggressive trail riding and enduro racing.
Retail prices start at $2,399.
