RALEIGH, N.C. (BRAIN) — A North Carolina cyclist is suing Rene Herse Cycles alleging the company was negligent in selling a tubeless road tire that blew off a hookless rim, causing a crash.

SAN DIEGO (BRAIN) — An Arizona woman is suing San Diego e-bike company Phantom Bikes and Costco Wholesale for $6 million. Carol Penkert's suit claims her bike came set up so the right brake lever operated the front brake, which caused her to flip over the handlebar and sustain serious injuries. Such a setup is banned by the CPSC.

SACRAMENTO (BRAIN) — The group of trail and forest advocates settled its federal lawsuit filed in 2019 against the U.S. Forest Service, whom it said allowed Class 1 e-bikes on non-motorized trails in the Tahoe National Forest without conducting a public study.

DENVER (BRAIN) — Samuel J. Mancini, who was arrested last July for securities fraud and other charges related to a plan to invest in cycling companies, is close to a plea deal with prosecutors on some charges, according to court documents.

CHICAGO (BRAIN) — SRAM Inc. is suing Princeton Carbon Works, Inc. for patent infringement. SRAM says that the wavy rim shape on Princeton's carbon road wheels infringes on its patent for a rim shape inspired in part by a humpback whale flipper.
NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Tour Central Park, which operates a bike rental operation in the city, is suing the landlord at its former Lower Manhattan location, charging that it engaged in "extortionate and predatory leasing practices," among other things.

PASADENA, Calif. (BRAIN) — A federal judge dismissed a case last week against the Los Angeles Department of Transportation about its collection of real-time data on micromobility users.
SEATTLE (BRAIN) — A bookkeeper could face up to 20 years in prison after she was indicted for embezzling at least $200,000 from a local bike manufacturer.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (BRAIN) — SmartEtailing is suing a Massachusetts bike store, CrimsonBikes, LLC. The website developer is charging that CrimsonBikes fraudulently told customers to ask their credit card company for refunds for undelivered bikes. A payment service is holding SmartEtailing liable for $400,000 in chargebacks.
