Sea Otter postpones Australia event due to COVID-19

Published July 21, 2021

(BRAIN) — With 12 weeks to go until the scheduled event, organizers of Sea Otter Australia have decided to postpone it until 2022.

After reviewing the impact that the new Delta variant of COVID is having on communities across (Australia) and the now normalized "go fast-go hard lockdown" response from state and territory governments, it's clear that a Sea Otter event unaffected by COVID in the coming 12 weeks is highly unlikely," the organizers said in an email to registered event participants and exhibitors on Wednesday.

"The safety and welfare of our Sea Otter family is paramount, as is our desire to ensure that we deliver excellent value for the investments made by exhibitors, riders, sponsors and spectators alike. Unfortunately, we are no longer confident that this is realistic as a result of the new COVID variants," they said.

The event is now rescheduled for the weekend of Sept. 29 - Oct. 3, 2022.

Registered riders will have the option to transfer bookings to next year or receive a refund.

A Sea Otter representative told BRAIN that the postponement of the Sea Otter Australia event does not impact other scheduled Sea Otter global events. The Sea Otter Europe in Girona, Spain, (Sept. 24-26) and The Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California, (Oct. 7-10) will both be held on schedule this fall.
