Espresso maker sets Italian booth on fire, baggy bibs for roadies, Lightweight's concept commuter and more.
FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany (BRAIN) — 2014 may be the Year of the Return of the Concept Bike, at least at the Eurobike show. In addition to the BMC concept bike we wrote about earlier this week, on Tuesday we took a look at a full-suspension, extensively "connected" concept road from Canyon. We also saw an innovative, attractive and potentially very expensive concept transportation bike from Lightweight, the German brand best known for its über-pricy carbon road wheels.

Overnight Thursday, an espresso maker caused a fire in the wall separating the Gipiemme and Plastotex booths. Fire fighters quickly brought it under control, but the companies had to move their displays to rooms behind a convention center restaurant. Gipiemme's display wheels were still dripping water Friday afternoon, and much of the company's literature was destroyed by water. -
Lightweight, best known for making superlight wheels for grand tour competitors, participated in a commuter bike design contest. This electric-assist carbon concept bike was the result. -
Topeak showed a new floor pump for fat bike tires. The gauge goes up to 15 psi. -
At the other end of the scale, Topeak is making a shock pump adapter for its Joe Blow Ace floor pump. It reaches 200 psi ten times faster than Topeak's hand-held shock pump. -
QLOOM Sports' baggy bibs for road riders won a Eurobike award. -
Ritchey unveiled its first fat bike at Eurobike. -
Shimano is making a bigger push for its PRO line and updating merchandising displays for retailers. One of the new products is this 'frame protection kit," which includes a chainstay protector and cable rub protectors for the frame and for housing. -
Shimano also is offering this wall display that gives customers a chance to touch and feel various grip models.
