(BRAIN) — Michael Larson, who worked for Accell, Trek, Giant and others in a long career in the bike industry, died on June 22 at age 66,
Larson, who retired in 2021, was a described as "a photographer, cyclist, triathlete, animal lover, traveler, hiker, kayaker, foodie, craft beer enthusiast, Weird Al Yankovic zealot, Pink Floyd fan, salesman, and as his late father in-law would say "a prince of a fellow."
Larson worked in sales at Giant in the 1990s, and later worked as a territory business consultant for Trek and a territory sales manager for Accell Group. He also represented many brands as an independent sales rep with RP Active Sports and as a self-employed rep.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Penelope, who he met at Pioneer Schwinn, where he worked at the time, when she visited with her sister to buy a bike for her nephew. "Her nephew got his new Schwinn bike and Penny got Mike," a family obituary reads. They dated for five years then walked down the aisle to "A Bicycle Built for Two" and rode off on a tandem bike for their honeymoon at Split Rock Lighthouse campground on the North Shore of Lake Superior, the first of many bike trips they took together.
The family asked for donations to St. Francis of Assisi Animal Rescue at stfrananimal.org.
