OTTOBRUNN, Germany (BRAIN) — Porsche eBike Performance GmbH announced Tuesday it will build a battery production facility in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, that will open next year.
Aimed at strengthening collaboration between development and manufacturing, the production facility is another step in Porsche eBike's plan to develop its own e-bike drive system. Battery development takes place at the company's Croatian subsidiary headquarters in Zagreb and manufacturing in Sveta Nedelja in a facility that is nearly 22,000 square feet.
"We see tremendous innovation potential in battery technology," said Dr. Alexander Wünsch, Porsche eBike Performance chief financial officer. "Comprehensive quality control and production reliability were the key reasons behind our decision to bring the Porsche system's battery production largely in-house."
According to Porsche eBike, the existing building will be converted by the end of the year and equipped with automated and scalable production lines. The start of production will commence in early 2026, coinciding with Porsche's e-bike drive system launch.
Drive unit production, including the motor and transmission, is set to take place in Germany, with the exact location to be determined. The focus at this site also will be to closely integrate development and production.
In 2022, Porsche eBike announced plans to develop its drive system, collaborating with Pon Holdings' Ponooc Investment B.V. The drive systems will be used in Porsche e-bikes and other brands.
