Dick's establishes new goals for DEI, sustainability

Published August 3, 2021

PITTSBURGH (BRAIN) — By 2025, Dick's Sporting Goods wants to increase BIPOC representation in leadership by 30% and increase women store leadership by 40%, according to its annual report on DEI initiatives, sustainability, and community outreach.

The report — 2020 Purpose Playbook — also noted the in-progress goal of achieving 50% BIPOC and/or women entry-level hires for technology by 2025. Dick's reported it increased diversity representation on its board of directors, enhanced the data-collection process for harassment claims, held inclusivity sessions for about 50,000 employees, and enlisted employees to champion DEI efforts.

A chief sustainability goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% at company operations by 2030. It also announced last year its goal of eliminating single-use plastic bags in all stores by 2025.

At the end of last year, Dick's signed the "We Are Still In" declaration to support the Paris Climate Agreement and joined the Outdoor Industry Climate Action Corps.

A continuing community outreach goal noted in the report is to provide one million young people from under-resourced communities the opportunity to participate in sports by 2024.
