GOP convention to use Kona patrol bikes

Published August 28, 2012

TAMPA, FL (BRAIN) — Police in Tampa will use Kona's recently launched Safariland 29er patrol bikes at the Republican National Convention this week.

The convention was brought to order briefly on Monday before being adjourned because of an approaching tropical storm.

Kona introduced the bike in May in a partnership with Safariland, a supplier of police equipment.

The Safariland/Kona Patrol Bike is built with the Kona Race Lite 7005 aluminum frame, a Shimano 30-speed drivetrain with SLX derailleur, RockShox fork, hydraulic disc brakes and in integrated rear rack.

The company did not say, but it as assumed that the bike is designed to perform well in the 100 mph winds and flooding forecast for Florida this week.
