Outcome follows coordinated industry advocacy led by PeopleForBikes and its members

PeopleForBikes announced a significant policy win for the U.S. bicycle industry following the Administration’s move to end the inclusion request process that could have added all bicycles, e-bikes, and frames to 50% Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs. The Administration also rolled back an August, 2025 decision that had added e-bikes to the Section 232 steel tariffs.

The outcome follows months of coordinated advocacy led by PeopleForBikes, in close partnership with its member companies and industry stakeholders across the country.

“This is a clear example of what happens when our industry shows up together, ” said Jenn Dice, President and CEO of PeopleForBikes.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, and riders who stepped up and made their voices heard. In response to proposed tariffs that could have added duties of up to 50% on bicycles and e-bikes, PeopleForBikes and its members mobilized one of the most comprehensive advocacy campaigns in the organization’s history.

PeopleForBikes led a coordinated, industry-wide effort that included direct outreach to key decision-makers, strategic communications across the industry, and aligned messaging to clearly articulate the stakes. The bicycle industry responded with overwhelming engagement, generating more than 1,300 public comments in opposition.

This unified action helped demonstrate the real-world impact these tariffs would have had on American businesses, supply chains, and consumers.

What This Means for the Industry

Under the Administration’s final action:

  • Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs will not be applied to bicycles, e-bikes, or frames.
  • E-bikes have been removed from Section 232 steel tariffs.
  • No additional compliance burden related to metal content reporting will be required for core bicycle products.
  • The derivative product inclusion process has been terminated, with authority now vested in the Secretary of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative.

While some component categories like chains remain subject to tariffs, the exclusion of complete bicycles and e-bikes represents a critical outcome for the industry. This protects U.S. businesses and global supply chains, supports jobs across manufacturing, distribution and retail and ensures continued access to affordable bikes and e-bikes for American consumers. It also reinforces the growing recognition of bicycles as essential to transportation, recreation, and economic activity.

PeopleForBikes credited its members and partners for their leadership and engagement throughout the process. PeopleForBikes also appreciates the Administration and policymakers who took the time to consider industry input in this decision.

"We also want to recognize the hundreds of companies and leaders who took action, writing letters, submitting comments, and sharing their stories,” Dice added.

“This win belongs to the entire industry.”
