After a highly successful debut in February 2024, enviolo proudly continued its commitment to the cycling industry by hosting the second edition of Product Day 2025. Designed as an annual highlight for the sector, the event once again brought an engaging lineup of expert speakers, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. The day provided deep insights into industry trends, consumer behavior, and technological advancements.
The event opened with an inspiring keynote from Prof. Dr. Meredith Glaser, CEO of non-profit Urban Cycling Institute and Professor of Cycling at Ghent University. During her speech The Big Picture: Where Can the Bicycle Take Us?, Meredith posed thought-provoking questions such as, "How can we get more people to travel by bike?”. Attendees engaged in an interactive session using a dedicated app, with their responses anonymously displayed on screen. Suggestions included safer streets, fewer cars, better bike lanes. She also challenged the audience to think beyond the obvious solutions by asking “How many people can you name who make decisions about cycling, mobility and streets?” —a question that left many unsure. She then pushed them further: “And what are you doing about it?”. Her message was clear—if we want more people to cycle, we need to act ourselves. The bike industry wants to sell more bikes, and communities want healthier, more sustainable cities, but real change starts at the root. She encouraged everyone to look beyond surface-level solutions but also think about how they can personally contribute to making cycling a bigger part of urban life.
A core focus of the event was the panel discussion, where industry leaders—including Teet Praks (Comodule) , Ferdi Ertekin (Dynamo Retail Group), Tammo König (Kalkhoff), Michiel Grobben (Giant) and Berend Kistemaker (enviolo), delved into pressing topics shaping the future of cycling. Moderated by Samantha van Wijk, known as Dutch Sport journalist and program maker. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between different industry segments to drive innovation and growth.
Beyond the content, networking was a standout aspect of the event. What made it unique was the rare opportunity for competing bike brands to come together in one room—something that seldom happens in the industry. The setting encouraged open discussions between Bike Brands, Retailers, and component brands, bridging gaps and fostering new partnerships. From casual coffee breaks to the lively pub quiz during the closing session, attendees had ample opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships within the industry.
The event was not centered around enviolo but had a focus on the industry as a whole. To contribute meaningful insights, Billy van den Ende (Chief Innovation Officer) and Thomas Ettema (Head of Product) from enviolo, shared key findings from an external research study. The research shed light on both the company’s role and the broader evolution of automatic shifting in cycling. The topic continues to spark discussion, as many brands, retailers, and end consumers struggle to fully embrace automatic shifting without extended firsthand experience. The instinct to shift manually remains deeply ingrained, making the transition a meaningful challenge. The other guest speaker, Siem Los from Cannondale, provided an insightful example of Cannondale’s approach to automatic shifting and its future potential.
As a special gesture to celebrate industry success, enviolo honored its customers Accell and Gazelle by sending ice cream trucks to their factories. This initiative recognized the recent RAI Awards won by Accell for the KOGA 6.0 and by Gazelle for their new Cargo longtail: The Cabby—two remarkable, award-winning e-bikes that showcase innovation, design excellence, and cutting-edge technology.
The day concluded with a relaxed drinks reception, leaving attendees inspired and energized for the opportunities ahead. Product Day 2025 once again demonstrated the power of bringing the industry together, setting the stage for continued innovation and cooperation.
