BERKELEY, Calif. The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is pleased to partner with the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP). The partnership provides NICA access and guidance to BICP programs and instructors. With NICA being the largest youth mountain biking organization in the United States and BICP providing the global standard for skills instruction; this partnership will raise the bar for NICA coach and student-athlete skill instruction, as well as provide NICA coaches the opportunity to receive continuing education through BICP.
"I am extremely excited for this partnership," says Shamus March, Founder and Lead Instructor for BICP. "Mountain biking is growing as a sport on all fronts. We're seeing more kids on bikes earlier, paving the way for a bright future for our biking communities. BICP and NICA will create stronger, more experienced coaches and parent supporters."
"BICP has provided the foundation for the NICA On-the-Bike Skills curriculum NICA coaches use to teach mountain bike skills to our student-athletes. Partnering with BICP has allowed us to provide our coaches with a solid foundation of skill instruction, which will ensure that their student-athletes are able to have a fun and safe time mountain biking. We encourage NICA coaches to continue their development as skills instructors by enrolling in a BICP course to engage in a greater depth of instruction and feedback that will increase their comfort and confidence as coaches," states Michael Eastwood, NICA Coach Licensing Senior Manager.
Steve Matous, NICA President, states, "This educational partnership exemplifies the great success two organizations can have working together to utilize their strengths. We thank BICP for their contribution and for joining the growing community of partners that are supporting our efforts to get #morekidsonbikes!"
