ROSEVILLE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Retail chain Mike's Bikes has made its first retailer acquisition since it was bought by Pon Holdings last year. The chain has acquired Roseville Cyclery, which has been renamed Mike's Bikes of Roseville, the 14th Mike's Bikes location.
Oliver and Yi Bell opened Roseville Cyclery in 2013. They will continue with the company.
In a YouTube video, Oliver Bell said he had a long history with Mike's Bikes, having bought his first mountain bike from the retailer in 1987.
"This has come full circle," he said in the video. He said his staff will continue under the new ownership. "Everybody's situation here is as good or better" than it was, he said, noting that Mike's offered better benefits and more opportunity for advancement.
"The past few years have been extremely challenging," Bell said in a statement on the new Mike's Bikes of Roseville website. "The landscape of bicycle retail is quickly changing, and the demands of the bicycle industry have been overwhelming. We chose to align with Mike’s Bikes for the sustainability of our business and to better support our staff long-term with an ethically aligned company where people come first."
Roseville is 20 miles northeast of Sacramento. Roseville Cyclery carried Specialized bikes before the acquisition. Mike's was one of the largest Specialized dealers in the country before it was acquired by Pon, which owns the Cervelo, Santa Cruz, Focus, and Gazelle bike brands, among others. Pon also recently bought Dorel Sports, which is the parent of Cannondale, GT, Schwinn and other brands.
Soon after Mike's was acquired, Specialized stopped doing business with the chain.
The shop is located at 404 Vernon Street in downtown Roseville.
