Giant issues retailers stop sale notice affecting four bike models

Published October 24, 2021

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. (BRAIN) — Authorized Giant Bicycle dealers were issued a stop sale notice by email on Friday involving four models on which the adjustable stems can come loose. Giant is in the process of notifying the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This stop sale notice applies to the 2021 Flourish FS 1, Cypress DX, Escape 3 Comfort, and Alight 3 Comfort models.

Giant has been advised by one of the two manufacturers of these models that the adjustable stems that it produced did not meet its quality standards. As a result, there is the potential for the handlebar stem to come loose while the bicycle is being ridden. Giant has received one report of the handlebar stem coming loose and causing an accident that did not result in any injuries. There were other instances of the stem being hard to tightened properly.

Giant will replace the stems on all 2021 Flourish FS 1, Cypress DX, Escape 3 Comfort, and Alight 3 Comfort models at the one manufacturing facility. The replacement program does not include any other models or styles of the brand's bicycles or any others made at the second manufacturing facility.

Authorized dealers are requested to immediately identify affected models and contact Giant. Additionally, Giant recommends determining how many customers have purchased these bicycles and contacting the company with this information. Dealers are asked to notify customers who have purchased the affected bicycles.

After the replacement program is announced, Giant will coordinate the swapping of the stems and assist in replacing those on customers' bikes.

The affected models have serial numbers starting with the letter "P," as is shown in the photo below. Models that are not affected have serial numbers starting with the letter "K."
