NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (BRAIN) — Retailer Bent Up Cycles has purchased recumbent brand Bacchetta Bicycles with plans to invest in product development and expand recumbent innovation.
Bacchetta was one of Bent Up Cycles' first brands when the store opened in 2004. Bent Up Cycles specializes in custom Bacchetta builds for racers and enthusiasts and will continue working with the brand's dealer network. Bacchetta Bicycles launched in 2001 and is based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Dana Lieberman, Bent Up Cycles' president, raced with Team Bacchetta in Race Across America in 2012. Bacchetta claims to have manufactured the first titanium and carbon fiber recumbents.
"Other business interests along with the resulting supply-chain issues over the past year from COVID-19 caused us to start looking at strategic options for Bacchetta," said Mark Swanson, Bacchetta Bicycles CEO, in a news release. "With the consolidation of the manufacturing, wholesale and retail channels, we thought the best option was talking to our top retailers. Having worked with Dana Lieberman and his team over the past 17 years, we have found the perfect fit to carry the brand forward."
Lieberman emailed retailers about the sale and is arranging a Zoom call to discuss plans and seek input.
"We are excited to acquire the Bacchetta line of bikes," Lieberman said. "Bacchetta has become synonymous with performance and quality. Their bikes are designed for real-world performance with simple, innovative designs that have set the precedent for recumbent bikes in the U.S. We plan investments in product development and are committed to expanding recumbent innovation and the great customer support that Bacchetta has been known for."
The Bacchetta Bicycles online store was temporarily closed on Sunday and is scheduled to be back by July 1.
