Bicycle Nomad collaborates with State Bicycle on signature model

Published November 17, 2020

TEMPE, Ariz. (BRAIN) — State Bicycle and global cycling ambassador Erick Cedeño have collaborated on a special-edition of the company's 4130 All-Road bike.

Known as the Bicycle Nomad — with an Instagram following of more than 27,000 followers — Cedeño has bicycled in excess of 40,000 miles in the past 10 years, including the Underground Railroad Route he's tackling currently. The 2,008-mile route honors the African freedom seekers who attempted to escape slavery before and during the Civil War.

Designed to handle gravel, touring, bikepacking and an all-around commuter, 100 Bicycle Nomad All-Road models will be produced. The frame is painted in Cedeño's signature teal and orange colors, with a topographic map overlaid on the fork and Bicycle Nomad head tube badge. The crankset and cockpit have a special silver finish.

The bike will retail for $899.99 and available for pre-order for December delivery on the State Bicycle website. Cedeño will receive a percentage of the sales of his model, which he's riding going forward.

"The idea with the design was to create a bike that can do everything," Cedeño said. "My favorite features are the components. The way the bike shifts is smooth and quiet. When I ride my bike across countries, I like to go into my thoughts. To me, bicycle touring is about finding peace of mind. So I don't want to hear the chain or gearing. This bike is quiet. Also, perfect geometry to be a do-all bike."

The project began over a year ago, with State Bicycle co-founder Mehdi Farsi being familiar with Cedeño beforehand.

"Knowing Erick through the local Arizona bike scene has been great," Farsi said. "He does so much for the local bike community, we knew a collaboration would be the perfect fit."

The bike is available with either a 700c or 650b wheelset at no difference in cost. For an additional $349.99, you can get both wheelsets, each with rotors, cassette, tires, and tubes.

"Working with State was such a wonderful experience," Cedeño said. "They were open to pushing the envelope and were very flexible with my ideas on this bike. They took the time to make this bike right and did not cut corners."

It's been a noteworthy year for Cedeño, who also became a paid ambassador for Blackburn Design to adopt a more inclusive marketing message. He has supplemented Blackburn's social media posts to engage its followers through cycling initiatives.

In the past 10 years, Cedeño has bike-packed from Vancouver to Tijuana; from St. Augustine, Florida, to New York; and from New Orleans to Niagara Falls, New York.
