WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Giant Bicycle is recalling LED-light bike lock keys that are included with SureLock sets because kids can access and swallow the heys' button cell batteries.
About 3,630 keys, including 1,395 in Canada, are included in the recall. The batteries can be accessed by kids, and the packaging and product don't have federally mandated warnings about ingestion risk. If swallowed, the batteries can cause injuries, internal chemical burns, and death.
No incident nor injuries have been reported.
The Giant Bicycle-branded black and white LED-light bike lock keys include a bike lock and two or four keys without an LED-light (depending on the model). Only LED-light bike lock keys manufactured after March 2023 are included in the recall. The list of affected serial numbers can be found here. The serial numbers are located on the underside of the lock.
Consumers should stop using the recalled LED-light key and contact Giant Bicycle for a $5 refund. They will be asked to bring the LED key to an authorized Giant retailer to receive the refund. Consumers will be required to bring either the complete bicycle lock or a picture of the serial number on the bicycle lock to verify the serial number is included in the recall. Consumers can continue to use the bicycle lock and non-LED-light keys included with the SureLock sets.
The locks were sold at Giant Bicycle authorized stores nationwide and online at from March 2023 through August 2026 for between $25 and $65.
