WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of 24,000 36-volt lithium-ion batteries used on VIVI e-bikes, a brand owned by Guangzhou Plenty Bicycle Co., Ltd., of China.

The CPSC is telling consumer to not dispose of the batteries in the trash, or in recycling bins or in the used-battery disposal boxes at retail stores.

"Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of differently than other batteries, because they present a greater risk of fire. Your municipal HHW collection center may accept this recalled lithium-ion battery or device for disposal. Before taking your battery or device to an HHW collection center, contact it ahead of time and ask whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. If it doesn’t, contact your municipality for further guidance," the CPSC said.
