WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Cervélo recalled its 2022 R5 and Caledonia-5 bikes and its ST31 LT replacement stems because the handlebars can slip in the stem, posing a fall hazard.
Consumers should stop using the bikes and stems and contact their authorized Cervélo dealer to arrange for a free repair to replace the stem faceplate. There have been 13 reports of handlebar slippage, with one injury reported.
Affected products can be identified by Cervélo and R5 or Caledonia-5 printed on the frame. The stems were sold only in black. About 1,800 bicycles and 182 stems are being recalled in the U.S. In addition, about 243 bicycles were sold in Canada.
Cervélo dealers nationwide sold the bicycles and replacement stems from May 2021 through July 2022 for between $5,000 and $13,000 for the bikes and about $300 for the stems.
