Commencal issues recall on some Ramones 14-inch kids bikes

Published March 25, 2022

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Commencal is recalling about 925 of its Ramones 14-inch kids bikes because of a crash hazard involving the brakes.

Federal regulations require bikes with seat heights at or below 25 inches to be equipped with foot brakes. Ramones models have only hand brakes, which can pose a crash hazard or injury risk to kids who might not be able to stop using only hand brakes.

Consumers should stop kids from using the bikes and contact the manufacturer for a free repair kit. Commencal Corp. is contacting all purchasers directly by email. The bikes were  sold online at www.commencalusa.com from December 2014 through March 2021 for between $230 and $320.

The affected bikes include:

  • 2015 (yellow) — “Ramones” is printed on a label of the top surface of the toptube. “Commencal” is printed on the bottom side of the downtube and on the side of the fork.
  • 2016 (red) — “Commencal” is printed on a label on the side of the toptube and on the chainguard.
