Academy Sports + Outdoors recalls 4 bikes over defective front wheel hardware

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Retailer Academy Sports + Outdoors is recalling four of its house-brand bike models because of faulty front wheel locking hardware that can pose a fall and injury hazard.

About 6,000 Ozone 500 Density Bicycles are affected. They were sold in multiple colors: Boys 24-inch (Model No. 164539), Women's 26-inch 18-speed (Model No. 162803), Girls 24-inch (Model No. 164537), and Men's 26-inch 18-speed (Model No. 162805).

The bikes, manufactured in China, were sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores and online at www.academy.com from October 2020 through November 2020 for about $115. The model number can be found on the seat tube. "Ozone 500" is printed on the frame.

No injuries or incidents have been reported. Consumers are being told to immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Academy Sports + Outdoors for a free repair or free replacement hardware.

Academy, based in Katy, Texas, has 259 stores in the South, Southeast and Midwest.
