Specialized issues safety notice on some Sirrus models because of crankset issue

Published June 26, 2020

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — Specialized Bicycle Components has issued a safety notice about certain 2019 and 2020 Sirrus and Sirrus X models because of incorrect crankset installation.

The two-piece slotted crankset is affected by the notice. Fixing bolts are on each side that clamp the left side arm onto the crank spindle. Bike owners are being told to stop riding until further notice. Consumers also are being told to visit their nearest authorized Specialized retailer, or contact Specialized Rider Care if they have questions.

Specialized recommends retailers to stop selling these models and said it is working to finalize a fix and obtain the required government approvals.

The specific affected Sirrus models are the 2019 Sport (including the EQ and step-through versions), and the X Comp Carbon. The 2020 models are the 3.0, 4.0, X 3.0, X 4.0, and X 5.0.

Specialized is recalling certain 2019 and 2020 Sirrus and Sirrus X models.
