Holland Cycles opens showroom in San Diego, hires new sales director

Published March 12, 2014

SAN DIEGO (BRAIN) — Holland Cycles has moved its headquarters into a 1,800 square-foot showroom in San Diego to showcase its custom bicycles. The showroom features a state-of-the-art fit center, a bike display area and a service and build area that has quadrupled the company's previous capabilities.

Bill Holland has crafted custom frames since 1976, and formally established the Holland Cycles brand in 1986. "Since I began welding custom frames so many years ago, we've always been committed to in-depth relationships with our customers. Not just fitting them by specification but also by analyzing their riding position and other physical constraints," Holland. "Our new showroom provides us the opportunity to greatly enhance our fitting, analysis and therefore our service to the rider."

Holland is best known for his use of Exogrid technology, which co-molds carbon fiber and cutout titanium to save weight, retain strength and generate special ride qualities. Over the years, Holland has worked with a variety of materials, including steel and titanium.

The company has experienced double-digit growth in sales of its custom road bicycles over the past few years; so far in 2014, sales are already up from 2013. Partner and master builder Charles Wells, who joined Holland in late 2009 to help grow the business, said that hiring additional staff has allowed Bill Holland to focus on manufacturing.

"With more people, we've been able to focus on growth rather than restraining the business, as Bill had to before just to keep it manageable," said Wells. "We see the demand for high-quality, American-made goods growing, and as long as we keep doing good work, the sales will keep coming."

Holland has also launched a new website to improve customer experience and recently hired a new marketing and sales director.

"The new showroom and website are just the fist steps in a complete plan to enhance customer's understanding and visibility of our custom bicycle design materials and options, plus our thriving custom wheel business," said Mike Wilson, the marketing and sales director at Holland Cycles.

Wilson is the former marketing director and co-founder of Kali Protectives and is a long distance road racer and Holland endorsee. He previously held marketing and product roles at Salomon Sports.

Holland Cycles also plans to launch a new bike at NAHBS this weekend.
