Tern wins Red Dot Award • Trips for Kids to celebrate 25th anniversary with gala and auction • New edition of Your First Triathlon available from VeloPress • Cervelo official bike of Gran Fondo Canada series • Bianchi official bike of 2012 Tours of Tucson

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (BRAIN) Wednesday April 11 2012 8:25 AM MT—Tern's Verge Duo bicycle has won a 2012 red dot design award for product design.

“It’s great to be recognized for the Verge Duo because we work hard to achieve clean, functional design," said Joshua Hon, Tern's vice president. “The fact that we have received three major international design awards all within a year of the launch of our company is a validation of our philosophy and objectives, which is to produce bikes for urban transport.”

In addition to the red dot award, Tern received a Eurobike Award at the 2011 Eurobike Show for the Eclipse S11i and a Taipei Cycle Design & Innovation Award at the 2012 Taipei Cycle Show for the Verge X10.

“Although the Verge Duo looks clean and simple, a tremendous amount of engineering and design effort went into it,” said Joakim Uimonen, Tern's chief designer. “It incorporates a total of seven new patented technologies and over 30 custom toolings. The finished package rides extraordinarily well, yet folds in less than ten seconds.”

Trips for Kids to celebrate 25th anniversary with gala and auction

SAN RAFAEL, CA (BRAIN) Wednesday April 11 2012 8:28 AM MT—Trips for Kids celebrates 25 years of serving at-risk youth with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, entertainment, inspiring stories and auctions from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday May 6, at the Mill Valley Community Center in Marin County, California.

In the last 25 years, Trips for Kids has led more than 90,000 underserved youth on mountain bike adventures across North America.

The gala program features a keynote address by Shimon Schocken, an Israeli computer scientist and visiting professor at Stanford University, distinguished TED Speaker, and founder of the Rides of Hope mountain bike club of Mizpe-Yam, a juvenile correction facility located near Tel Aviv. There will also be a 25-year retrospective of the Trips for Kids program by founder, Marilyn Price.

The live auction items include a Bianchi San Jose bike autographed by actor Robin Williamns, a Santa Cruz Juliana bike donated by Juli Furtado, a four-day Western Spirit Cycling mountain bike trip for two to the White Rim in Canyonlands National Park and more.

Sixty percent of the funding for Trips for Kids comes from the sale of donated merchandise through its Re-Cyclery Thrift Shop, perhaps the largest bicycle thrift shop of its kind in the country.

Trips for Kids relies on donations to pay for organization expenses not covered by Re-Cyclery Thrift Shop profits.
