Sidi America opens Memphis warehouse

Published February 24, 2012

MEMPHIS, TN (BRAIN) Feb 24, 16:25 MT——Sidi America opened its new eastern U.S. warehouse this month, reducing shipping times to the east coast by three to four days.

The warehouse is located in Memphis and is run by third party logistics company Kuehne + Nagel. Sidi also has a warehouse outside Reno, Nevada. With 60 percent of Sidi’s business east of the Mississippi, it made sense for Sidi to keep stock closer to its customers, said Al Budris, president of Sidi America. It also helps that FedEx, its primary shipper, has a hub in Memphis, and that Tennessee is a low inventory tax state. Sidi can now offer one-day service to much of the East Coast.

All Sidi shoes are shipped from headquarters in Maser, Italy, to Memphis, then the inventory is split between the two warehouses depending on demand. Since Memphis just came online, stock there is about 5,000 shoes compared with Nevada’s 10,000, but Budris expects that to flip-flop with time.

Budris said he planned early on to open a second warehouse to offer better flexibility and to support faster inventory turns and quicker backfill orders.

“I’m so small in the scheme of things, I have to move faster, smarter, better,” Budris said. “The shoe category is getting vicious.”
