Team BMC to use Gates belt-drive bikes

Published January 27, 2012

DENIA, Spain (BRAIN) Jan 27, 09:16 MT—Tour de France winner Cadel Evans and his teammates will be using Gates belt-drive bikes this season — not in competition, but around town at least.

Gates has signed a sponsorship agreement with Evans' BMC Racing Team that will provide the team with BMC belt-drive bikes for commuting; team trucks will carry BMC urbanchallenge UC01 bikes equipped with the Gates Carbon Drive for use at race venues

In addition to the 11-speed UC01 bicycles, Gates will give select team riders including Evans and George Hincapie “masschallenge” MC01 singlespeeds for commuting and off-season use.

The UC01 comes in 11-speed, eight-speed and three-speed versions, along with a singlespeed/fixie option. They are designed for commuting, fitness or leisure rides. The bikes are built on a lightweight iSC alloy frame and feature carbon forks, disc brakes and Gates' new CenterTrack drive train.
