Mellow Johnny's race expands in fourth year at new venue
AUSTIN, TX (BRAIN) — Lance Armstrong's bike shop, Mellow Johnny's, continues to support the Mellow Johnny's Spring Classic, which is the kickoff event of USA Cycling's Pro XCT series. The race is March 3-4.
This year the race is not going to be held at Armstrong's Juan Pelota Ranch, because the Tour de France hero has sold the spread. Instead, the race will be about a mile away at the Flat Creek Crossing Ranch. Flat Creek features eight miles of singletrack and has hosted events in the Texas Mountain Bike Series for years.
This year Subaru of Georgetown has stepped in as title sponsor of the race.
Mellow Johnny’s Spring Classic will consist of mountain bike racing for elite pro men and women, a Kid’s Kup Youth Series for ages 2-12, and all USA Cycling amateur categories.
“We’re thrilled to host a Pro XCT and amateur race in Central Texas again for another year,” said Mellow Johnny’s general manager, Craig Staley. "The growth of the event combined with the positive and enthusiastic response from the mountain bike racing community makes the race weekend one that we look forward to all year long."
Registration will open Jan. 30 at bikereg.com.
