Cleveland Beer Week Ride on Tap

Published October 7, 2011

PENINSULA, OH—Retailer Century Cycles will celebrate Cleveland Beer Week on Oct. 15 with the second annual All Hail the Ale Night Ride in conjunction with Winking Lizard Tavern and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

The free nighttime ride starts at 7:30 p.m. at Century Cycles in Peninsula, Ohio, and follows a 13-mile route on the Towpath Trail. Helmets and lights are required. Oktoberfest-themed snacks—pretzels, sausages, cheeses and other salty delicacies—will be provided at the ride’s halfway point. The ride ends with a tapping of cask-conditioned Sierra Nevada Dry Hop Torpedo ale at the Winking Lizard Tavern next door to the shop.

Riders are encouraged to decorate themselves or their bikes in tribute to the “All Hail the Ale” theme. Beer-inspired ostumes are not required, but those wearing them can win post-ride prizes donated by Century Cycles, the Winking Lizard and Sierra Nevada.

“The post-ride beer is a long and sacred tradition in bicycling. This event helps us honor that while we celebrate Cleveland Beer Week,” said Scott Cowan, owner of Century Cycles. “Last year’s All Hail the Ale Night Ride was a huge hit; over 170 people biked with us and most decorated themselves or their bikes in some sort of beer-inspired way.”

Century Cycles will also be collecting donations for the Malone Scholarship Fund, the official charity of Cleveland Beer Week, and is donating a bicycle for an Oct. 22 silent auction that will benefit the fund.

Cleveland Beer Week runs Oct. 14-22 and features hundreds of craft beer tastings, dinners, demonstrations, leisure activities, educational programs and specials at bars, restaurants and grocers throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
