Long Beach Bike Advocate Dies in Plane Crash

LONG BEACH, CA (BRAIN)—Long Beach real estate broker and cycling advocate Mark Bixby was among four people killed when their Salt Lake City-bound plane crashed along a runway at Long Beach Airport on Wednesday morning.. One person was seriously injured in the crash.

Bixby, 44, had worked to establish the Long Beach Bike Festival and had been an advocate of building a bike and pedestrian lane on a new bridge over the Port of Long Beach, according to the LA Times.

"There was no ego about Mark, even though the Bixby name goes way back in Long Beach," said Randy Gordon, a longtime friend and president and CEO of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, to the LA Times.

Bixby is survived by his wife, Theresa, and their three children.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.
